Human Gene Set: FOROUTAN_TGFB_EMT_UP

Standard name FOROUTAN_TGFB_EMT_UP
Systematic name M42501
Brief description Genes up-regulated in the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) upon transforming growth factor beta (TGFb) stimulation derived from multiple datasets by combining results from an integrative approach and a product of ranks meta-analysis approach.
Full description or abstract Most cancer deaths are due to metastasis, and epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) plays a central role in driving cancer cell metastasis. EMT is induced by different stimuli, leading to different signaling patterns and therapeutic responses. TGF_ is one of the best-studied drivers of EMT, and many drugs are available to target this signaling pathway. A comprehensive bioinformatics approach was employed to derive a signature for TGF_-induced EMT which can be used to score TGF_-driven EMT in cells and clinical specimens. Multiple datasets were used to derive the signature using three approaches: by integrating the datasets prior to identifying EMT genes, by first identifying EMT genes from individual datasets and then combining them using a meta-analysis (product of ranks) approach, and by combining inferences from the first two approaches.
